Dr. Jian received a B.S., M.S., and a Ph.D. degree from Xian Jiaotong University in 1997, 2000 and 2003, respectively. Immediately following, he joined Microsoft Research Asia, and has been working in the fields of computer vision and computer graphics, with particular interests in solving fundamental research problems and building real-world working systems. His primary research interests are computational photography, face recognition, and deep learning based image understanding. 

He has published 90+ articles in top conferences or journals. He won CVPR Best Paper Award twice in 2009 and 2016. He was named as MIT Technology Review Young Innovator under 35 (MIT TR35) in 2010. The team he led won five 1^st places in ImageNet (classification, detection, and localization) and MS COCO (detection and segmentation) competition 2015. Jian owns 40+ international or US patents. The research outcomes of him or his team have been widely used in Microsoft products such as Windows, Offices, Azure, Bing and Xbox.

After thirteen years at Microsoft Research, Dr. Jian joined Megiiv Tech Inc. as Chief Scientist, in July 2016.
